Counselling in Christchurch and surrounding areas

Welcome to Becky Langford Counselling

If you are not saying it, you are storing it

I am here to hear your story and ready to listen, without judgement.

Are you looking for an experienced, qualified counsellor in the Christchurch and surrounding area? Someone who provides friendly, professional and confidential support? Then you have come to the right place.

My name is Becky Langford MBACP, and I am a BACP Registered Psychotherapist and Counsellor working in Christchurch and the surrounding areas. I offer counselling to individuals and have experience in working with a wide range of issues and personal, emotional and relationship problems.

I am a trained Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, which means that I have studied three different counselling modalities so that I can draw upon any of these to help clients in our work together. The three different modalities are; Person Centered, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis.

Whatever is on your mind can be brought to the session, talked about and explored. This could be feelings, thoughts, memories or dreams. I will actively listen and try to help you make sense of what is going on for you and how you feel about it.

Becky Langford, counsellor in Christchurch

As our relationship develops, you will discover new insights which can lead to finding different ways of dealing with the problems and feelings that you had been struggling with - potentially for many years. Or perhaps you are not clear about what is causing your distress but are experiencing an underlying sense of sadness or dissatisfaction, or feeling lost in life.

Whatever your current difficulty, I will offer you an opportunity to explore and clarify your thoughts and feelings through curiosity, listening carefully to what you say, without judging you and offer reflections to help you gain deeper insights into your thoughts and feelings. This helps you understand yourself better and discover new perspectives.

We may identify patterns in your thoughts or behaviors that are affecting your well-being. By recognising these patterns, we can work together to make conscious, positive changes.

The therapeutic relationship, between client and myself, is key to our work together. Trust needs to be established and built upon in order for clients to be able to open up and talking without fear of judgement. I know first hand how powerful being not only listened to but heard and to have my feelings validated is from another individual. How often do you get to talk for 50 minutes about whatever you want to without being interrupted.

I strive to offer this to all clients no matter what they bring to each session.

Therapy

After having therapy myself when I was a teenager I knew that I always wanted to be a therapist myself. I wanted to be able to give back and help others, by providing a safe and confidential space for people to off load and unpack what is going on for them.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • I am a registered member of the BACP

Experience

I feel that I have lived experience of certain topics that bring people to counselling. Clients have found that we are able to connect more deeply through a better understanding of what is going on for them.

What can therapy help with?

Therapy can help with many different problems such as:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Traumatic experiences, including physical illness or injury
  • Bereavement or other loss
  • Loss of direction
  • Low self esteem
  • Difficulties in relationships with others – partners, family or work colleagues

You might decide that you need this support for just a few sessions, to sort out specific problems or you might decide you want to explore things more fully and deeply, and continue in therapy until you feel you have achieved this.

After the initial session I usually recommend a commitment to a minimum of at least six sessions to allow the therapeutic work to develop and have an impact. However, the number of sessions is always at the clients discretion. I will be guided by you and your needs.
